A Study of Personality on Social Phobia and its Type



Abstract
The social phobic patients can be divided into 3 subtypes according to the clinical features : (1) simple, (2) ideas of harming others, (3) borderline. The type of ideas of harming others has never appeared on the Western reports : in fact, DSM
criteria
can hardly explain this unique subtype. The authors compared the clinical features of simple type and ideas of harming others type with Interpersonal Attitude Test and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). And we compared the
patients
according to their main growing place such as cosmopolis, small city, countryside.

@EN (1) The Interpersonal Attitude Test Results
¨ç All social phobic patients had the competitive attitiude and the attitude of "regards for others".
¨è The patients type of type of ideas of harming others had the more attitude of "regards for others" especially on the groupism and the self-devalusting factors.
¨é Among the social phobic patients, the patients who had grown up in the countryside had the more attitude of "regard for others".
(2) MMPI Results
¨ç All social phobic patients showed showed the high scores (over 60) on the depression(D), psychasthenia(Pt), social introversion(Si) scales and it was interpreted as they are anxious, success-oriented, perfectionistic, compulsive clinging and
they had
much needs of attention getting and the discomfort of social situation.
¨è The patients of the type of ideas of harming others showed the more serious problems than simple type patients on all scales, especially high scored on depression(D), hysteria (Hy), paranoia(Pa), psychasthenia(pt), and social introversion(Si)
scales.
And it was interpreted as they are more depressive, self-centered, repressive, anxious, having the trends of association of other's behaviors to the self, sensitive, and they have lack of problem-solving skills and creativity, so they feel
discomforts
on social situation more easily and have the more traits of avoidance.
